Interested in trying our Kits?
Learn to Solder Kits began in 2015 when Emma Fletcher & Andy Colborn were volunteering at an engineering outreach event teaching soldering to local high school girls. The kits purchased for the event were made with low quality PCBs. The traces were prone to overheating and lifting up which combined with students who were learning for the first time led to a lot of frustration. By the end only half of the projects were functioning and we hadn't succeeded in communicating the joy and excitement they could find in engineering.
We set out to fix these problems and designed our own kit using high quality components and printed circuit boards. Our kits are made to be assembled in 30 mins - 1 hour so they can fit into a lesson plan or afterschool activity. They are designed to deliver a sense of accomplishment that will encourage the maker to chase bigger and more exciting projects.
Since 2015 we have taught hundreds of people to solder by leading classes at our local makerspace, community college, and other events. We have a 100% success rate of all our students walking away with a working kit!
We love working with educators! We offer bulk classroom sets on our website and give even steeper discounts for schools and non-profits purchasing 100+ kits.
All our kits are Open Source Hardware certified and made in Sacramento, California.
